Deportivo Táchira - Atletico Venezuela
Venezuelan club Deportivo Tachira have match abandoned after furious fans invade pitch in protest over pink 'Breast Cancer Awareness' kit
Irate fans caused Deportivo Tachira's Venezuelan Premier League game against Atletico Venezuela to be abandoned after a mob of supporters stormed from the terraces and set about staging an on-field protest that disrupted the game for nearly 30 minutes.
The fans - and this is where things start taking a real turn for the 'dumb' - were furious over the club's decision to mark their contribution to 'Breast Cancer Awareness' month by turning out for the game in a one-off pink kit (a gesture that the club had been promoting for weeks on their website) in support of the Senos Ayuda Foundation, a non-profit cancer charity, therefore not wearing the supporters' beloved black and yellow colours.
Of all the things to get angry over.
A fairly considerable group of fans began to protest in the stands, waving Tachira's home jersey in the air and chanting about 'defending their colours', before spilling over onto the pitch only to be swiftly penned in by riot police.
The protest went on for the best part of half an hour before the referee eventually decided to abandon the game, ushering the two sets of players back down the tunnel and officially annulling the fixture.
